Myrna lamb Column for all April 2009

for the week beginning Monday April 06, 2009

DEAR MYRNA:

My marriage wasn’t going well and I had a short affair with a Taurus co-worker. My husband found out. The other man stopped seeing me and started seeing someone else at work. I still have feelings for him but my husband and I are getting along better, and I don’t want to hurt him again. I’m really confused. Do you see my marriage getting worked out and moving forward, or is the other man going to come back into my life, or is there someone else? I am a Capricorn, 46, married to a Sagittarius, 53. MC

DEAR MC:

Capricorn is a Sign famous for being practical and good at finding solutions to difficult situations. Your Moon in Scorpio indicates the depth of your emotions. Usually you are clearheaded. For the moment, you have taken leave of your senses.

Your marriage can only be saved with wholehearted and honest effort. Your husband has his Moon in Capricorn, meaning that he cares for you deeply. The other man is a distraction, not the real thing. Get into marriage counseling. Give it a commitment of three months. By the end of June you’ll know whether you want to give your marriage more of a chance. Only then does it make sense to ask whether there is someone different and better than your husband.

DEAR MYRNA:

My son who turned 18 on April Fools day, has been a very tough child. He does not listen to anything I say and refuses to be responsible for his actions. He has enlisted in the Army National Guard Reserve and if all goes well, he’ll be completing boot camp this summer. I will be asking him to move out as I’m tired of him being disrespectful towards me. Will he be okay? TY

DEAR TY:

Your son has the good fortune of the Sun Sign Aries. Mercury in Aries gives him a quick mind. The problem for him is his Moon in Scorpio. It makes him hard to read, complex and secretive, where Aries is usually so open and virtually transparent. The Guard will be wonderful for him because he functions best when he knows exactly what is expected of him.

As for as your relationship with him, it is time to back off. Try to praise him for the things he does well. Tell him, the minute he is disrespectful of you, what he said or did that distressed you. He can learn, especially if you are consistent.

DEAR MYRNA:

I have tried, but been unable to get though to you on the radio. I want to leave Rhode Island. Is this a good time for me to make such a move? I am a Sagittarius, 63. AB

DEAR AB:

Can I come? Everybody, almost, wants to leave Rhode Island after the long gray and dreary winter we’ve just had. But spring is here and it seems a pity to want to leave us just when robins are hopping around, sparrows are making nests and flowers are beginning to bud. Okay, okay, yes you can go. Jupiter is in the fourth house of your horoscope putting your focus on your place of residence. Your yearning to relocate is in sync with the effect of the planets on your natal chart.

DEAR MYRNA:

In a column a while back you recommended Shad Helmstedder self talk audio tapes and books to one of your readers. I’ve been listening to one of his tapes for a while and it is simple yet very effective. I am really feeling more positive! So, I wondered if there are other authors you can recommend to me for more positive thinking and achieving success. I am a Scorpio, 47 and a longtime listener to your radio show. LM

DEAR LM:

Two books come to mind. I think this one is the only How-To book you’ll ever need: How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Solid, right on target. The next is a little book, If you Don’t Know Where You’re Going, You’ll Probably End Up Somewhere Else by David Campbell. Simple truths, simply put. And thank you for reading this column and listening to my WPRO show.

for the week beginning Monday April 13, 2009

DEAR MYRNA:

My ex-boyfriend has just started contacting me again. We’ve been apart for several months and have had no contact. Prior to that we had a serious relationship. Our problem was that we both had so much stress going on in our personal lives that we had nothing left for each other. Do you see us reconciling? If so, will it work? I’m a Taurus, 30. He’s a Capricorn, 34. AJ

DEAR AJ:

I am happy to say that I get quite a lot of mail. As a result my rule has been, just one question per person. Or at least, one question per year. You wrote to me about this man in April of 2008. My boyfriend and I have trouble making time for each other… will this change soon? … We work opposite shifts.. he has responsibilities for a young son…

I replied: many couples who work opposite shifts find time alone. if you two wanted to be with one another… sharing the responsibilities that you are handling, you would find a way. How much do you two want to be together? It’s time to discuss this with your boyfriend.

You got a second question into this column, November 2008, mentioning his messy divorce, young son and saying: Things have been very strained lately. Will we be able to work through this and have a lasting relationship? My response to you was, don’t wait for him. Feel free to meet other people. By April you will know whether there’s a future for you two. Well, now it is April. And you are asking again. What does that tell you?

DEAR MYRNA:

I love your show on WPRO and plan on getting your books! I am a Taurus married to a Gemini. We are both in our 20’s. I’d like to know whether you see me getting pregnant shortly. SK

DEAR SK:

You can. But what’s the hurry? In astrology one is not considered an adult until the age of 29. This is especially true for Gemini. Gemini is the Sign of experimentation and needs a wide range of life’s experiences. Your husband wants to enjoy you. Hike, camp out, back pack, see the country. His chart also suggests that he has other things going on in his life that will distract him from family life until the spring of 2010.

Putting pressure on Gemini to have children now might put strain on your marriage. Your husband has his Moon in Leo, an honorable and responsible Sign. Someday he will be a committed, caring and fun loving dad. It’s not time yet. Thank you for your kind words about my work.

DEAR MYRNA:

I am employed at a local University and we are starting to hear about lower enrollments for 2009, wage freezes, layoffs, and so forth. Will my position be affected? I work part time, love my job and hope to be working until I’m 65, but should I start looking elsewhere? I am an Aries, 60. CK

DEAR CK:

I do not think that you need to start looking just yet. You have a load of planets in fortunate Aries and no obvious negative aspects for the next six months. Overall, you are okay at least through summer. Stimulus funds and improvement in the university’s endowment could change things substantially in time to save your position through spring 2010. If you make it to the end of 2010, you’ll be able to stay at your current position until you are 65.

DEAR MYRNA:

My mother, an Aries, 78 and I, Capricorn, 53, don’t get along. Never have. Now she is beginning to slip and I have to spend more time with her, helping her out. She has an amazing ability to push my buttons and I become sharp and sarcastic. I want to change. I want to stop the bickering. How can I improve our relationship? PIA

DEAR PIA:

You have your Moon in Scorpio and Mercury in Sagittarius. You don’t mean to but you intimidate your mother. Try saying flattering things. Talk about your childhood, in favorable terms. Look over old photos together. Your mom is the little girl here. You can turn this relationship around.

for the week beginning Monday April 20, 2009

DEAR READERS:

Last month on the 6th, Venus, the planet of love, turned retrograde. Venus retrograde periods are times when we reassess our romances, friendships and marriages. We can look at what isn’t working and consider ways to improve that. In general, it is not a beneficial period for getting married or starting a new relationship. Many existing relationships have struggled through this period, but it may have served a purpose. Venus retrograde helps you to see what is good and acknowledge what is not.

Venus is now direct in action giving you the impetus to use what you have learned. However, Venus will not move into a healthier location until the 28th of this month. At that time, Venus will have moved into Aries again and the Moon will be in a place that will help to improve relationships. So it would be best to hold off until that date. One result of Venus retrograde is that previous lovers are apt to have reappeared. And on that subject:

DEAR MYRNA:

It’s been about 30 years since I graduated from high school. I had a boyfriend senior year who I loved dearly. We went to colleges on opposite coasts, met and married other people. I have thought of him frequently over the years. I got divorced three years ago and have just returned to RI. His wife passed away late last fall. I would like to get in touch with him but I don’t want to do anything too prematurely. From what I heard over the years, the marriage was not wonderful. I am a Gemini, 48. He is a Libra, same age. Do you think something could develop between us? LL

DEAR LL:

Hold it there girl! What do you know about the man Libra has become? Good heavens, are you just like your high school self? Of course not. You have changed and so has he. He may have changed for the better. He may have changed for the worse. There’s nothing wrong with calling or dropping him a note of condolence on the loss of his wife, mentioning that you have just returned to RI and learned of her passing. If he wants to pursue this connection he will respond. Then we can look at whether you two have a future or only a past. Best day to contact him or mail the card: Tuesday, April 28.

DEAR MYRNA:

I am a Leo, late 50’s. My life has not been totally bad but it certainly hasn’t been easy. My husband who is also a Leo finds fault with everything I do. Somehow in his eyes, I rarely do anything right in spite of the fact that I put effort into our marriage, am a good mother and hold a full-time job. What do you see in the future for my marriage? Will it get better? MR

DEAR MR:

There are several things that you can do to improve your marriage. As you are both Leos, you have a doubling up of the good and bad traits of that powerful Sign. On the positive side, Leo is enthusiastic, loyal, responsible. courageous and honest. As parents, Leos inspire respect in their children. On the negative side, you can be domineering and controlling. Leo is not very good at apologizing, believing that you aren’t ever wrong.

You may see your husband in that description, more than you see yourself, but to improve a marriage requires first of all, improving your own behavior. Look at yourself carefully. Next, find three positives in your marriage and praise your husband for the things that are good. Only then does it make sense for you to point out one thing that displeases you. In the meantime, strengthen your own independence and build stronger friendships outside your marriage by putting your Pisces Moon to work. Join new activities in your community and in your church.

Remember the upbeat and dynamic woman that you were when he fell in love with you? Strive to recapture that energy. Finally, when he criticizes or finds fault, reply, “thank you” and just quietly walk away. More than any argument, this response will get him to recognize the way that he has been putting you down.

for the week beginning Monday April 27, 2009

DEAR READERS:

Mercury Retrograde is right around the corner. This one begins on May 7th and continues through May 30th. If you wish to advertise something to rent or sell, if you have documents to revise or create, it would be wise to begin before that aspect starts. It’s fine to do research and make plans, to gather info and organize thoughts throughout the retrograde, but wait until at least the midpoint of this period, May 23rd, to act upon those plans.

DEAR MYRNA:

I am a Virgo, 43. I will be moving within the next few months due to a divorce. Should I rent, or buy a condo or a house? I love listening to you on the radio Saturday evenings. RD

DEAR RD:

Jupiter is transiting through the fourth house of your natal chart. There are two positive results of Jupiter placed there. First, you will find many appealing places to choose among and second, making the move will be good for your spirit. Renting might be a good choice short term, say for one year, as Saturn finishes its pass through your Sun Sign. But by no means would buying be a bad decision.

If you want to buy, the best time to find your next home will be between July 1st and October 12th. Jupiter will be retrograde then and prices will still be modest. They are apt to go up after that. There are a couple of warnings. Watch your budget during the eclipse period, July 12th through August 9th. You may find a house, whether to rent or buy, that you love so much, you’d be tempted to overspend. Between September 7th and September 29th there’s a Mercury retrograde and paper work can get badly messed up so pay extra attention to all documents. As to condo versus house, that’s totally personal.

Thank you for listening to my program.

DEAR MYRNA:

I am an Aries, 28 and my husband is a Leo, same age. Although we are both Fire Signs, we are in fact very practical people. We are planners and set goals for ourselves. Currently we are trying to decide whether we should make a major purchase this year, specifically a house. We had not been planning this, but it seems an ideal time since prices have come down and interest rates are low. If we do choose to buy a house, we’d have to sell the one we own now and we would lose money on the sale because our home is worth about $30,000 less than when we bought it. Do you think it is a good idea for us to try to purchase a home this year or should we wait a few more years for our house to go up in value? JF

DEAR JF:

It doesn’t matter financially. Your house is down $30,000. So are the properties you’re looking at. Wait for your house to go up, and so will they. Interest rates will go up too. Your horoscopes indicate that buying now would be fine if your husband’s job is totally secure. His house of employment is stressed. If his position is safe, buying now will work out well for you both.

DEAR MYRNA:

I enjoy your column and want to share a follow up story with you about some advice you gave me that was very accurate. In February 2007, I wrote you regarding my daughter who wasn’t motivated, couldn’t hold a job, and wasn’t in school. I was frustrated and angry. You said that toward the end of summer there would be a change for her and made several recommendations about interacting with her better. Those suggestions helped and then things really did change.

Later in 2007, my daughter got pregnant and had a son. Becoming a mother changed her life dramatically, and I am so proud of her. She is now a responsible, driven young woman, holding down a good full time job. My life was also transformed because our relationship is so much better. BB

DEAR BB:
Congratulations on the birth of your grandson. It’s wonderful to learn that your daughter is doing well, relishing motherhood and relating to you so well.
